The story entitled “The Devil wears Prada” is closely related to the story of Patricia Comwell entitled “From Potter’s Field”. In both stories, the main characters don’t have time anymore for their loved ones because they got busy with their work. For Andrea in the “The devil wears Prada”, her best friend and her boyfriend were complaining about her time management. A for Kay in “From Potter’s Field”, her niece told her that she doesn’t have time for and for her grandmother. Kay felt guilty as well for her boyfriend because she could not spend time with him. In addition in both stories the main characters got separated with their boyfriends.
Andrea’s story with regard to her is similar to that of my friends. Both of them had a boss that is not kind enough to treat them fairly, in which my friend’s boss scolded her though it was not her fault, and same is true with Andrea in this story. And in the end of the story, Andrea left her job because she could not take anymore. Similar to that, my friend left also her work because she was tired of being accused of false accusations.
Passage Speaker- Rejoice Elatico
“ Only death was not an option.”
I choose this passage because it reminds me that death is not a choice to end one’s problems and sufferings. We don’t have the right to end our lives or to end someone’s life. Life is just a borrowed gift from God and so, we must take good care of it. We must keep it sacred because it only comes to us once. We cannot bring it back once we’ve lost it. Death comes at time but it never an option to escape from hardships and setbacks. Life has many options and it depends upon us on how we can handle it.
“You have nothing but choices.”
There comes a time when we thought we don’t have other choices that’s why we stick unto something which we think was the only option. I choose this passage because I believe that everyone has a choice and there is no such thing as “no choice”. We can always pick what we want but it just happened that there are rules and laws that we must follow. There are limitations that we must not go beyond and these lead us to choose what we think is right, what we think will be better. It is our choice to be sad; it’s our choice to be happy. It is our choice to be carried away by temptation and I is our choice to live in righteousness. It is us who make our own destiny. It is us who will make our own lives….”life is how we make it”.
“If you just keep your eyes open and your priorities in order, you’ll learn more in one year than more people in the industry will see in their entire careers.”
If you have set your goals in life and you use it as your instruments in making your dreams to be true, you will have a better perspective in life and a more positive outlook. It simply means that organizing your priorities systematically makes it easy for you to handle and achieve. Just take one step at a time because everything that we have to do will be accomplish at the right time and in God’s will. You don’t have to rush things out, we just simply need to manage our time in learning meaningful things and take it as a blessings and inspiration as we go on our careers.
“When in doubt ( and you never should be), better to be undressed in something fabulous than overdressed in something fabulous.”
When you have doubts in something and you think it will turn out to be the one you want it to be, do not expect too much. You have to weigh the situation and balance the possible consequences s that when the outcome didn’t teach your expectation, it will not cause you so much hurt. Sometimes, it’s better to expect the unexpected and stop expecting that high when you already sense at first that something does not run smoothly. In that way, you will not be disappointed and some of your efforts will not be wasted.

- Andrea Sachs, a recent Brown University graduate, works as a junior personal assistant to a powerful and tyrannical fashion magazine editor. She is called Andy by her friends and family.
- Miranda Priestly, the British-born editor-in-chief of Runway, a very fashionable and influential fashion magazine published by the Elias-Clark company. She is known for wearing a white Hermès scarf somewhere on her person every day and treating her subordinates in a manner that borders on emotional and psychological abuse.
- Emily Charlton, Andy’s coworker, Miranda's former junior assistant now her senior assistant, responsible for more business-related matters such as reconciling expense statements. She and Andrea should be friends, and sometimes they are, but have a mixed relationship, as their different responsibilities to their tyrannical superior create jealousy between them. - Alex Fineman, Andrea's boyfriend, who teaches at an elementary school in the South Bronx through Teach for America.
- Lily Goodwin, a free-spirited graduate student in Russian literature at Columbia with curly black hair who rooms with Andrea, her longtime friend whom she went through high school and college with.
